Highgate Cemetery. Fact, or fiction? Fact, definitely. It is a 15 hectare site in North London with some 52,000 graves. Since 1975 it has been managed by the charity 'Friends of Highgate Cemetery'. Some say it’s not as interesting as other members of the ‘magnificent seven’ London cemeteries and some say it’s not as well managed, but Highgate Cemetery has an aura all of its own and many legends have grown up around it.

This website has the aim of presenting a true picture of Highgate Cemetery by those who have known it. Whether you live in Highgate, are a graveowner, member of FOHC or visitor, there is a section for you to tell your tales. There is also a section on the residents of the cemetery for you to add to the knowledge we have of them.

Using memories and anecdotes, reportage and photographs we hope to build a website that will celebrate this wonderful burial ground and the people whose lives have been touched by it.
